When are the cafés open during the year?

We are open Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters and part of the summer, and Monday through Thursday through the remainder of the summer. We are generally not open when there are no students on campus, or when there are very few students on campus (during the Maymester and Wintermester, for example.) Although we realize that faculty and staff are still working, the volume of business is simply too low for us to remain open.

When are you available for catered events?

We are available for caterings year-round! There are some times of the year (holidays, etc.) when after-hours rules would apply, but we are happy to book and serve catered events even when our cafés are closed.

What forms of payment do you accept?

For checkout in the café, we can accept cash, credit or debit (Visa/Mastercard). Although we don’t accept checks for individual café lunches, you are very welcome to sign up for our in-house ECI debit card and fund the account using a personal check. Please visit your local 360° Food Court for more information about the card.

For caterings, we can accept cash, personal or business checks, credit or debit cards (Visa/Mastercard) or purchase orders. If you would like to pay with anything besides a TCC Purchase Order, please be sure to let our catering department know when you place your order, and we will be happy to make convenient payment arrangements.

Do you hire students? How do I apply?

Absolutely: although we prefer to consider applicants with restaurant or culinary experience for full-time work, we also have a number of entry-level positions available, and try to be as flexible as possible in accommodating class schedules. If you are a full-time TCC student interested in part-time work, we encourage you to visit your campus’ Financial Aid office to learn more about work-study program opportunities. To find out more about available positions with ECI, please contact your campus’s on-site manager here.

Why do you close at 2:30? What about service for night students?

Although ECI did previously experiment with staying open late to serve evening students, we ultimately had to reduce our open hours due to exceptionally low business volume at night. Enrollment has increased significantly since that time, however, and we have partnered with TCC to begin offering unique evening food service solutions tailored to each campus, from the mobile food-service carts at Northeast and Northwest to the Latitude Coffee Lounge at South campus. We also highly recommend the fresh sandwiches, wraps, and milk that we supply to the bookstores as a healthy and portable evening meal solution. If you don’t see these at your campus bookstore, please ask their staff to consider stocking them: we will be happy to provide!

Do you cater off-campus events?

Yes: in addition to regularly catering TCC events at the May Owen Center, Fort Worth Opportunity Center, and Alliance Training Center, we also serve various schools, businesses, and public buildings around the metroplex. If you have an event coming up outside of TCC, please contact our catering department to learn more about our off-campus catering options.

Why are there two catering menus?

Working from inside TCC means that we are able to avoid many of the fixed costs that affect outside food service operations: since our rent, utilities, and much of our kitchen equipment is all paid for by the district, we are able in turn able to offer lower prices for TCC sponsored events. For other events, our standard ECI catering menu is designed to provide the best possible value to on- and off-campus organizations at very competitive rates.

Do you ever donate food for charitable/non-profit events?

A qualified yes: we do a number of giveaways and make charitable contributions every year. However, since our budget for these items is limited and must last for events through the whole year, we are generally not able to subsidize entire events, and must unfortunately turn many down altogether. If you are seeking sponsorship for an upcoming event, please contact our catering department so that we can discuss it in more detail.

What are the rules about bringing outside food on-campus? Do I have to use ECI?

Also a qualified yes: our contract with TCC names us as the district’s designated food service provider; as such, we have the right of first refusal on any food service provided for on-campus events. With that said, however, we are sensitive to the budgetary constraints of departments, clubs and individuals, and are more than happy to work with event coordinators on these issues to come to a mutually satisfying arrangement. If you have any question about outside food for your event, please contact our catering department so that we can discuss it in more detail.

I have special dietary needs – what are my options?

With the opening of the 360° Food Court, we can now offer more dining options than ever before: from perfectly vegan baked potatoes and veggie burgers to 100% gluten-free soups, salads, and omelettes, to heart-healthy oatmeal and whole-grain deli sandwiches, we are committed to offering great variety for everyone, every day. If you have questions about ingredients or potential allergens in any of our food items, please don’t hesitate to speak to your on-campus food service manager: they take pride in cooking and supervising production of everything that goes out of their kitchen, and will be happy to address your concerns.
